The Registered Nurse Self-Assessment Examination (RN SAE)
is a 50-question online practice examination
developed to acquaint potential CHPN®
candidates with test taking and allow them to become
familiar with the format of the examination. By taking this RN SAE you will be able to practice taking the RN certification examination,
experience computer based testing, review rationales
for correct and incorrect answers, and receive a
score report that will assess strengths and weakness
for further study. Questions are linked to the
detailed content outline located in the NBCHPN®
Candidate Handbook. This SAE can be used as one of
several tools to aid your studies, along with the
detailed content outline and reference list located
in the Candidate Handbook, as well as educational
materials available for purchase through the Hospice and Palliative Nurses
Association (HPNA). A portion of the proceeds from the purchase of this SAE benefit the Alliance for Excellence in Hospice and Palliative Nursing.
The items (questions) in this
version of the CHPN® SAE have been
carefully selected so that meaningful feedback can
be provided to you. This feedback includes two
sources of information. First, while you are
completing the test, you may choose to ‘grade’ each
item after you have selected your response. This
will give you immediate feedback about your
response. The second source of information deals
with the score that you might expect to achieve on
the CHPN® examination. If this is your
primary focus, you may wish to take the test under
the same sort of conditions as the actual CHPN®
examination. For example, to simulate actual
testing conditions, you should be sure to complete
the SAE in an hour or less, working uninterrupted.
You can choose to score your test after you have
completed the entire SAE.
The SAE, once purchased, will be available for your use for up to 60 days. You will be able to use this SAE as a practice exam as well as receive rationales as to why each answer is correct or incorrect. It may be accessed as many times as desired throughout the 60 day window, however you may only take the complete exam once. You will only have access to your results. Upon completion of the exam a score report will be generated to allow you to see the amount of correct answers in each category as well as provide you with a performance ranking as to your strongest and weakest content areas. Knowledge obtained from reviewing your score report will help to further aid your studies for the certification examination.
